I have seen quite a few mini Schnauzers whose insulin needs vary significantly over the course of a year. They will go along fine on a dose for months and then suddenly that dose is too much.
May be related triglycerides or something else entirely.
So you may find that there isn't one dose that's right for long periods of time.
It is important to give things time to settle. Some dogs need a couple of weeks to develop a long-term pattern. Slow methodical changes seem glacial but actually are the fastest way to get to the best dose.
